Quick tips: Work with documents in Word for the web

Word for the webIf you are moving from using Google Docs to Microsoft Word, it is easy to get started using Word for the web. Like Google Docs, Word for the web is an app that you use from any device anywhere you are connected to the internet.
Start your work in Word for the web so your files automatically save in OneDrive. This lets you share your files with co-workers so you can start collaborating immediately. And if you work with your documents in the Word app for the desktop, all of your changes will be saved online.
To convert your Google Docs to a Word document, in Google Docs go to File > Download > Microsoft Word (.docx) to change and save the Google Docs file to Word format. Then, open the file in Word. See more at Download a copy of a file in Docs.
Create a document
When you create a new document in Word for the Web, it will automatically be saved to OneDrive.

Select New blank document.

Begin working on your document.

Create a document from a template
You can create a document from sample templates and customize it to suit your needs.

In the Create new section, select See more templates.

Search through the template files and select the one you need.

Edit the template as needed.

Open a document
There are a number of ways to open a document in Word for the Web.

Click on the file in File Explorer.

If a document is shared with you from a coworker, click on the link.

In Word for the Web, use the Quick Access filters and search box to find and open the document you are looking for.

Rename a document
To rename your document, you have two options:

Select the file name at the top and type in what you want.

Select File > Rename.
Choose a save option
Your changes are automatically saved in Word for the web.
There are additional ways to save your document. Select File > Create a Copy to see more:

To save a copy online, select Create a copy online.

To save a local copy, select Download a copy.
