Applies ToMicrosoft Stream Stream on SharePoint

You can use embed codes to insert Stream video and audio files into non-Microsoft apps or third-party websites easily, as long as the users are logged into your Microsoft 365 environment and have access to the file. For best results embedding in Microsoft apps (e.g., Viva Engage, SharePoint, etc.) use the app-specific instructions.

Note: Stream only supports embed codes for logged in users internal to your organization. You can use an embed code on web pages outside of Microsoft 365, but the embed code will require the viewer to login and have access to the file. In addition, embedded media in third-party sites may not provide certain features (e.g., commenting, reporting issues). As an alternative, the Open in Browser button will enable viewing in Stream which supports all features.

  1. Embed codes only work for users that have permission to the file. Before you use an embed code, in the Stream video page, select the Share button to open the drop-down menu, then select Manage access.

  2. Check the users and groups that have access to the file. Only the users and groups listed in Manage access will have access via the embed code. This will include users and groups who have access to the team, site, or folder the file is stored in as well as people who have direct access to the file itself.

  3. If you need to grant access to additional users or groups, select the icon of the person with the + sign to Grant access to additional people.

  4. Now that your permissions are setup correctly, in the Stream video page, select the Share button to open the drop-down menu, then select Embed code....

Choose your playback options.  Start from: Optionally enter a time code HH:MM:SS where playback will begin. Player size: Allows dynamic resizing in browser. Autoplay: When in Off mode, user must click Play to start playback.Responsive: On allows user to control player size when resizing browser window.Show title: Determines whether the video/audio title shows during playback.

  6. Select Copy embed code ...

  7. Insert the code where applicable for your non-Microsoft website or third-party app for logged in users to access.
