If you have a Surface or Xbox, you can use your Microsoft account to check its warranty and make warranty claims. 

Your new Surface or Surface-branded accessory comes with a limited standard warranty. For more warranty details, see Warranty and Protection Plan Terms & Conditions. 

In addition to the standard limited warranty, you may have the option to purchase extended protection for your Surface (not available in all markets). Protection Plan coverage is valid only in the country of purchase.

The easiest way to find the warranty type for your device and the coverage dates is in the Surface app.

Open the Surface app

You can also go to account.microsoft.com/devices and select a device to see its warranty. If your device isn't listed, select Register device to add it to your account. You'll see the coverage dates after you do this.

Registering your Microsoft device

Before you can check your warranty or get service, you may need register your Surface or Xbox to your account. For help registering your Surface or Xbox, see Manage devices used with your Microsoft account or Getting your Xbox device serviced.

Check your Microsoft warranty

Once you've registered your device, use your Microsoft account to check your Surface warranty or check your Xbox warranty. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to account.microsoft.com/devices with your account.

  2. Locate the device that you want to check the warranty on, then select Info & support.

  3. In Device coverage, you'll see what kind of warranty coverage your device has and how much time is left.

How to get service for your Microsoft device

On account.microsoft.com/devices, you can get service for your Surface, Surface accessory, Xbox, or Xbox accessory. Here's how:

Note: Warranty service may be available only in the country where you purchased the Surface device. If warranty service is unavailable to you in the country where the device is located when warranty service is requested, Microsoft may offer you other support options for an additional charge. 

  1. Sign in to account.microsoft.com/devices/select-device-for-repair.

  2. Choose the device that needs service, select Next and then follow the instructions to complete your service request.
