Smart Due Date, Reminder Recognition in Microsoft To Do
Applies To
Microsoft To DoNow, you can quickly add due dates, reminders and repeat information to your tasks by typing in all the details with the task title using natural language. We will automatically recognize and highlight the dates, times and repeat information and add it to your task accordingly.
Note: We currently support this in To Do Windows app from version 2.66 and above. We also support smart due date, reminder suggestions in To Do iOS app. We are working on expanding support to other platforms.
Note: For To Do Windows, we currently only support this in English (EN-) languages.
Add a Due date
While typing the task details, type the due date using natural language like “tomorrow”, “Apr 27”, “Friday” etc. To Do will automatically recognize the due date and add it when you save your task.
Add a Reminder
While typing the task details, type the reminder date and time using natural language like “tomorrow 5pm” , “Apr 27 10am”, “friday noon” etc. To Do will automatically recognize the reminder and add it when you save the task.
Add Repeat
While typing the task details, type the repeat information using natural language like “daily”, “every Monday”, “daily 5pm” etc. To Do will automatically recognize the repeat information and add it when you save the task.
Note: We don’t support Smart recognition of dates and times during Task editing in the details view.
Enable/Disable Smart date, time recognition
We understand that sometimes the date or time can be part of the actual task title and not meant to be a due date or reminder. For example, in “buy food for April”, “April” is a pet’s name but To Do will highlight and set it as due date.
Don’t worry! You can turn off the smart date, time recognition on a case-by-case basis by pressing backspace on the highlighted word from your keyboard. We will unrecognize it and the word will become part of your task title. You can also delete or modify the due date, reminder, repeat information anytime using the buttons on the right side of task input bar.
If you’d prefer to use To Do without smart date, time recognition you can disable the feature entirely. Here’s how:
-
Go to Settings in your To Do app
-
Scroll down to Recognize dates and times in task titles and toggle the feature Off
Keep/Remove recognized text from task title
By default, To Do will retain the text recognized and highlighted as due date, reminder or repeat as part of the task title. If you'd prefer that To Do removes the recognized text from task title once you save it, you can do so from Settings. Here's how:
-
Go to Settings in your To Do app
-
Scroll down to Remove dates and times from task titles once recognized and toggle the feature On.
