Manage chats with the Teams mobile app

You can manage just about everything related to a one-on-one chat, self-chat, or group chat on the Teams mobile app chat dashboard. To view the dashboard in iOS or Android, enter the chat and select the name at the top of the chat, whether that's the name of someone you're talking to, your own name, or the name of a group chat.

Change a group chat's name

  1. Go to the chat dashboard.

  2. Select Edit  Teams edit button next to the group's name.

  3. Change the group chat's name and select Save.

Search in a chat

  1. Go to the chat dashboard.

  2. Select Find  Search magnifying glass button.

  3. Enter your search terms.

Add a chat to Favorites

  1. Go to the chat dashboard.

  2. Long-press the chat you want to move and drag it to Favorites.

See all

When you're in the chat dashboard, you'll see partial lists of different elements present in the chat, such as files and apps. Select See all in one of these partial lists to view a complete list of everything that fits that type.

For channel messages, press and hold in a message to see your options. You can react, copy, forward, turn on notifications, save, and mark as unread. You can also edit and delete your own messages.

View someone's profile

If you're in a 1:1 chat or a self chat, you can go straight from the dashboard to the relevant person's profile by selecting their name or profile picture.

Create or add people to a group chat

  1. Go to the chat dashboard.

  2. Select Add  Teams add member to chat.

  3. Enter the names of the people you want in the group chat.

When you add another participant to a 1:1 chat, a new chat will be created and your chat history won't move over.

Leave a group chat

  1. Go to the chat dashboard.

  2. Select Leave chat.

  3. Select Leave to confirm you want to leave the group chat.

When you leave a group chat, other people are informed that you've left. You also won't be able to post or get messages from the group chat.

Leaving a group chat and adding a chat to favorites are part of the public preview program and might undergo further changes before being released publicly. To get access to this and other upcoming features, switch to Teams public preview.
