In Microsoft Teams (free), you have the option to post to a community and channel. You can start a new post, share something from your device, create a poll, and reply to a post. Take a look and see what else you can do when you post in a community or channel in Microsoft Teams (free).

Post to a community

A community is where you can engage in conversation and share information securely.

  1. In Teams, go to the community you would like to post to.

  2. Tap the new post button Teams new chat icon.

  3. In the New post window, you can:

    • Add a title to your post.

    • In the Start a new conversation area, you can compose your message and @ mention someone in the community.

    • Tap the plus button  Teams community schedule new even button to include Media, Attach a file, schedule an Event, or include a Poll to send to the community. Learn more about how to create a poll.

    • Tap the Media button to include photos from your camera roll or take a new picture.

    • Tap the emoji button  Teams Community event reactions to include emojis, Memes, or GIFs in your post.

    • Use the options to format your post.

    • Select the more options button  Teams settings and more button at the top to Also send via email. This will send your new post to all members in an email as well.

  4. When you're ready, tap Send  Teams send button to post to the community.

You can easily share something from your camera roll, apps, or browser to a community.

  1. Select the item that you would like to share with a community.

  2. Tap the share button.

  3. Scroll to Teams (free), then under Communities, select the community you would like to share to. You will also have the option to include a message

  4. When you're ready, tap Send Teams send button to post to the community.

  1. Go to the post in the community that you would like to reply to and tap Reply.

  2. You can type your message in the Reply field and tap the emoji button  Teams Community event reactions to include Emojis, Memes, or GIFs.

  3. Tap the plus button  Teams community schedule new even button to include Media, Attach a file, mark your message as high Priority, Format your message, schedule an Event, or include a Poll to send to the community. Learn more about how to create a poll.

  4. Tap the camera button to include a photo or take a new one or tap the microphone to record and send an audio message.

  5. When you're ready, tap Send Teams send button to reply to the post.

When you create a post or announcement or send a reply, use the options to format your message.  

Tap the plus button  Teams community schedule new even button to include the following:

  • Add Media  Gallery button from your camera or gallery to your post or announcement.

  • Attach files  Attach a file button to share.

  • Mark your message as high Priority  The Important icon

  • Create an Event  New meeting button.

  • Create a Poll  Teams Polls button to send to your community. Learn more about how to create a poll.

  • Add Emojis  Teams Community event reactions to share reactions.

  • ​​​​Use the format options to customize your message with Bold, Italic, Underline, and much more.

Post to a channel

Channels make it easier to focus on specific objectives and projects. You can use channels to post topics like Announcements and Q&As.

  1. In Teams, go to the channel you would like to post to.

  2. Tap the new post button Teams new chat icon.

  3. In the New post window, you can:

    • Add a title to your post.

    • In the Start a new conversation area, you can compose your message and @ mention someone in the community.

    • Tap the plus button  Teams community schedule new even button to include Media, Attach a file, schedule an Event, or include a Poll to send to the community. Learn more about how to create a poll.

    • Tap the Media button to include photos from your camera roll or take a new picture.

    • Use the options to format your post.

  4. When you're ready, tap Send  Teams send button to post to the community.
