Update your Surface Dock

Surface Dock Surface Devices SurfaceThe instructions on this page apply only to Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock, Surface Dock 2, and Surface Dock. If you have a different dock for Surface, you can’t update it using this software. If you aren't sure which Surface Dock you have, you can Identify your Surface Dock and features and then check the appropriate steps to update.
For Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock
Follow these steps to keep your Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock updated.
Check for Windows Updates
To check the update status on Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock, use the Surface app.

With your Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock connected, select Start , search for surface, then select the app from the list of results.
Note: If you don't see the Surface app in the search results, you might need to download the Surface app from Microsoft Store.

From the choice of connected accessories at the bottom of the app, select Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock.

Expand Firmware Update to view the currently installed firmware and see whether it is up to date. If needed, select the option to update the device.
Download an MSI package
To update your dock using downloadable MSI packages, go to Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock Drivers and Firmware, select Details, and choose a package to download.
Note: This method isn't supported for any Surface model that uses Windows in S mode.
For Surface Dock 2
Follow these steps to keep your Surface Dock 2 updated.
Check for Windows Updates
To check the update status on Surface Dock 2, use the Surface app.

With your Surface Dock 2 connected, select Start , search for surface, then select the app from the list of results.
Note: If you don't see the Surface app in the search results, you might need to download the Surface app from Microsoft Store.

From the choice of connected accessories at the bottom of the app, select Surface Dock 2.

Expand Device Information to view the currently installed firmware and see whether it is up to date. If needed, select the option to update the device.
Download an MSI package
To update your dock using downloadable MSI packages, go to Surface Dock 2 Drivers and Firmware, select Details, and choose a package to download.
Note: This method isn't supported for any Surface model that uses Windows in S mode.
For Surface Dock
Follow these steps to keep your Surface Dock updated.
Use the Surface Dock Firmware Update

Select Download.

Under Choose the download you want, select the latest version of the Surface Dock Firmware Update. The file name will start with Surface_Dock_FWUpdate_ and a version number, and it will have a .msi file name extension at the end.
You don't need to download all the files in the software package—just select the Surface Dock Firmware Update. -
Select Next and follow the rest of the instructions to install the update.
After you've installed the Surface Dock Firmware Update, your Surface Dock will automatically update, and you won't have to do anything. If you'd like to install updates yourself, follow these instructions to manually update your Microsoft Surface Dock Firmware.
Note: If you're using Windows in S mode, you'll need to switch out of S mode or use a different computer to update your Surface Dock.
Disconnect and reconnect your Surface device
After installing the update, you must disconnect the Surface device from the dock and reconnect it.
If the Surface Dock didn't update its firmware, try these same steps with another Surface device running the latest version of Windows 10 or Windows 11.
