Important: To restore notes from a backup, you first need to back up your notebook.

  1. Select the File menu and choose Info

  2. Select Open Backups, navigate to the notes you'd like to restore, and select Open.

  3. Right-click the restored section or pages and select Copy to place them in the desired notebook.

  4. When your notes have been restored, right-click the backed-up section and select Close.

To just restore pages or sections, see Recover a deleted page or section.

Manual and automatic backups aren't currently possible in OneNote for the web. You can, however, keep backups of all of your work in the OneNote desktop app.

  • To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing and choose Open in Desktop App.

  3. Navigate to the notebook and section you'd like to restore and select Open.

  4. Control-click the section in the nav pane, and select Copy Section To.

  5. Choose a notebook to copy it to, and select Copy
