Copilot in Word on mobile devices

Copilot in Word for iOS on iPad
: This feature is available to customers with either a Microsoft 365 Copilot (work) or Copilot Pro (home) license.
Draft new text

Open a new Word document.

Tap the Copilot button to open the Copilot pane to open the Copilot pane.

Tap either the Get started button or the Sparkle icon.

Select Write about... and enter in the details of what you want Copilot to write about.

Copilot places its response in the Copilot pane. Select the Copy button and paste the text into your document.

Drafting new text in a Word document can also be accessed on the document's canvas.

Open a new Word document.

Tap the Copilot button on the canvas or select Draft with Copilot in the Word floating menu.

In the compose box, enter in the details of what you want Copilot to write about.

Select Keep it to insert the text on the canvas, Edit it to insert the text on the canvas and immediately edit it, or Regenerate to regenerate Copilot's drafted text.
To get the best results when drafting with Copilot:

Provide Detailed Context: The more information you share, the more tailored Copilot's draft will be.

Include Additional Materials: Incorporate any existing outlines or lists into your prompt to return the most relevant information.

Be Specific: Clear and precise prompts enable Copilot to generate the most accurate content.
Rewrite existing text

Open a Word document that already has text in it.

On the document, select the text you want rewritten.

In the selection's context menu, tap Rewrite with Copilot.

Copilot creates several rewritten versions of the text.

Select < or > to navigate between rewritten versions.

Select Replace to replace the original text with the rewritten text in your document. Select Insert to insert the rewritten text after your original text. Select Regenerate to have Copilot generate more rewritten version. Select Adjust to adjust the tone of the rewritten versions. Tap outside of the Copilot Rewrite box to discard the rewritten versions.
Use multiple files for broader insights
For tasks that benefit from a wider scope, such as summarizing content or asking questions about a document, you can start by referencing up to three files.
Add Files: In the Draft with Copilot dialog, select Reference a file to choose up to three files for Copilot to consider when creating your new document.
Direct Access: Enter "/" followed by the file name in the Compose box to prompt Copilot to reference content from your SharePoint or OneDrive. Be sure you have the necessary permissions for the Word or PowerPoint files you want to use.

Summarize a document

Open a Word document that already has at least 200 words in it.

Tap the Copilot button to open the Copilot pane.

Tap either the Get started button or the Sparkle icon.

Select Summarize.

Copilot places its summary in the Copilot pane. Select the Copy button to copy the summary.

Ask questions about a document

Open a Word document that already has at least 200 words in it.

Tap the Copilot button to open the Copilot pane.

Tap either the Get started button or the Sparkle icon.

Select Ask a question... and ask a question of what you want to know about the document.

Copilot places its answer in the Copilot pane. Select the Copy button to copy Copilot's response.

Copilot in Word for iOS on iPhone
View summary

Open a Word document that has been shared with you.

Tap Get a Summary from Copilot on the nudge at the bottom of the app to open the Copilot pane and generate a summary of the document.

For more information about the document, choose one of Copilot's suggested questions, type a question, or tap the microphone to ask Copilot with your voice. Copilot will scan the document and give you an answer.
Chat with Copilot

To chat with Copilot about the document, tap the Copiloticon.

Tap the microphone in the prompt box to ask Copilot a question with your voice or type your prompt into the prompt box.

Tap the Send arrow, and Copilot will generate a response.

Copilot will also include references to show you where it pulled its information from in the Word file.
Ask Copilot's suggested questions

To view Copilot's suggested questions and answers, tap Suggest some Q&As in the Copilot pane, or tap the Sparkle icon in the compose box and tap the Suggest some Q&As prompt.

Browse Copilot's suggested questions then tap on the down arrow to see Copilot's answers.
Copilot in Word on Android phones

View summary

Open a Word document that has been shared with you.
