Filter websites and searches using Microsoft Family Safety

Microsoft account Windows 11 Windows 10 Xbox One Microsoft Family SafetyEstablishing internet boundaries is an important way to protect yourself and your family from inappropriate web content. Microsoft Family Safety web and search filters work across any Windows, Xbox and mobile device that has the Microsoft Edge browser and Family Safety apps installed.
Important: To use web and search filters, family members must use the Microsoft Edge browser while signed into their Microsoft accounts.
How to enable or disable web and search filters
To set up web and search filters, choose a setup method:

Open the Microsoft Family Safety app.Download

Select your family member.

Select Content filters.

To enable filtering, turn on the Only use allowed websites slider.

Add or select sites to allow or block.
Tip: You can unblock browsers in App and game filters.

Sign in to your Microsoft account.Sign in

Once signed in, select Family Safety from the menu on the left.

Find your family member and select then Go to overview.

Select Edge as a platform.

To enable or disable web and search filters, turn the Filter inappropriate websites and searches toggle on or off.

To block or add specific sites, add their URLs under Blocked Sites or Allowed sites. You can unblock browsers in app and game filters.

Limit access to specific sites only by turning on Only use allowed websites or Always allow educational websites toggles.

Mature website settings
By default, mature websites will be blocked and searches will be filtered in the Bing search engine. You can also view a family member's Bing search results through activity reporting.
Important:

Microsoft Family Safety's web and search filters only work with the Microsoft Edge browser.

To block other browsers, turn on Filter inappropriate websites.
