Troubleshooting sound issues in Immersive Reader

If you are using Immersive Reader for distance learning or online education and the text is being highlighted but you can't hear any sound, follow these solutions to fix the issue:

Solution 1: Check your volume settings

If the words are highlighted but you don’t hear any sound . . .

1. Exit Immersive Reader.

2. Turn up the volume on your device or speakers to ensure it is not muted or too low.

3. Reopen Immersive Reader and select the Play button to see if the sound is working now.

If there is still no sound, proceed to the next solution.

Solution 2: In Windows, check that speakers or headphones are turned on

  1. Open the Sound Control Panel from the taskbar.

  2. Look for a green checkmark next to at least one device (speakers or headphones), indicating it is enabled.

  3. If no device has a green checkmark, right-click on the device’s icon and select Enable.

  4. Close OneNote, then reopen it and launch Immersive Reader again.

  5. Select Play to check if the sound is now working.

Solution 3: Make sure your language is supported in text-to-speech features

  1. Not all languages are supported by Immersive Reader or other text-to-speech tools. If sound is still not playing, check if your language is supported by visiting the supported language list.

  2. This will ensure that the text-to-speech features are compatible with your chosen language, making your online learning and remote education experience smoother.

These troubleshooting steps are helpful for students and educators using Immersive Reader as part of digital learning platforms, virtual classrooms, or e-learning courses. Proper sound functionality is crucial for effective online education, enhancing engagement and accessibility for all learners.
