This article is for people who use a screen reader program such as Windows Narrator, JAWS, or NVDA with Microsoft 365 products. Use Microsoft Teams with your keyboard and a screen reader to like and save messages. We have tested it with JAWS and NVDA, but it might work with other screen readers as long as they follow common accessibility standards and techniques. You'll also learn how to find and listen to the saved messages.

Use VoiceOver, the built-in macOS screen reader, to like and save messages in Microsoft Teams. Learn how to find and listen to the saved messages.

In this topic

Like and save a message

  1. Go to the message you want to like or save, and press Return. You hear: "Like."

    Tip: If the message is in a threaded conversation, press Return to go into the conversation, and then press Return again to go into the message.

  2. To like the message, press Return. To save a message, press the Right arrow key until you hear "More options," and press Spacebar to open the menu. You hear: "Save this message." To save the message, press Return.

  3. To move the focus back to the message or the conversation, press Esc.

Find and read saved messages

  1. To open the Settings menu, press Command+E to go to the Search field, press the Tab key once to move to the Settings menu, and then press Return to open it.

    Tip: You can also use the Search field to quickly find your saved messages. Just type /saved into the field and press Return. The thread with the most recent saved message opens in the content pane. The focus is on the saved message.

  2. Press the Down arrow key until you reach saved messages, and press Return to select.

  3. A list of your saved messages opens in the list pane. The thread with the most recent saved message opens in the content view and VoiceOver reads the message.

  4. To go to the list of saved messages, press Esc to shift focus from the conversation in the content view and then press Shift+Tab until you hear VoiceOver read the message. The focus is now in the list pane and you can press the Down or Up arrow key to navigate the messages on the list. VoiceOver reads the messages as you land on them.

Like and save a message

  1. To like or save a message in a threaded conversation, swipe right or left until you hear the message you want.

    Note: While you browse between the messages you will also hear "Profile photo for <team member>" and "Message options."

  2. When on the message you want, swipe right. You hear: "Message options." Double-tap the screen to select.

  3. The message options menu opens and you hear: "Like." Do one of the following:

    • To like the message, double-tap the screen.

    • To save the message, swipe right until you hear "Save," and double-tap the screen.

  4. The menu closes, and the focus moves back to the conversation.

Find and read saved messages

  1. In Microsoft Teams, swipe left or right until you hear "More menu," and double-tap the screen.

  2. Swipe right until you hear "Saved," and double-tap the screen. A list of your saved messages opens with the latest one at the top of the list.

  3. To navigate down on the list of saved messages, swipe right. VoiceOver announces the saved messages as you move.

  4. To open the conversation that includes the saved message, when on the message, double-tap the screen.

Like or save a message

  1. In a channel or Conversation, to like or save a message, swipe right or left until you hear the message you want.

  2. When on the message you want, to go to the message options, swipe right. You hear: "More options." Double-tap to select.

  3. The message options menu opens. Do one of the following:

    • To like the message, swipe right until you hear "Like," and double-tap the screen.

    • To save the message, swipe right until you hear "Save," and double-tap the screen.

  4. The menu closes, and the focus moves back to the channel or Conversation.

  2. Swipe right until you hear "Saved. In list, 2 items," and double-tap the screen. A list of your saved messages opens with the latest one at the top. You hear: "Saved."

  3. To navigate the saved messages, swipe right. TalkBack announces the saved messages as you move.

  4. To open the conversation containing the saved message, browse to the message and double-tap the screen.
