Last Updated: September 19, 2018

ISSUE

After you activate a pre-installed Office product in a specific language on a Surface or 3rd party device, some applications may revert back to English automatically.

This issue affects Office 2016 in the Microsoft Store in China and Japan.

STATUS: WORKAROUND

Microsoft is currently investigating this issue. In the meantime, try updating the Office applications through the Store app as a workaround:

  1. Go to Start > Microsoft Store.

  2. Choose More (three dots) near the search box, then choose Downloads and updates.

  3. On the Downloads and updates page, click the Get updates button.

If this does not solve the problem, you can uninstall Office in the Microsoft Store, and install Office following the steps in this article instead: Download and install or reinstall Office on a PC or Mac.
