Many users find that using an external keyboard with keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Teams for personal and small business use on Windows 11 helps them work more efficiently. For users with mobility or vision disabilities, keyboard shortcuts can be easier than using the touchscreen and are an essential alternative to using a mouse.

  • The shortcuts in this topic refer to the US keyboard layout. Keys for other layouts might not correspond exactly to the keys on a US keyboard.

  • A plus sign (+) in a shortcut means that you need to press multiple keys at the same time.

  • A comma sign (,) in a shortcut means that you need to press multiple keys in order.

  • You can easily access the keyboard shortcuts list from within Microsoft Teams. To open the keyboard shortcuts, press Ctrl+Period (.), and then select Keyboard shortcuts in the upper-left corner.

Keyboard navigation in lists and messages

  1. Navigate between list items in the left pane, such as the Activity feed, with the Up and Down arrow keys.

  2. To bring the focus to the compose box at the end of the currently active thread, press Enter.

  3. To navigate in a thread, press Shift+Tab to move the focus to the messages in the thread, and then use the Up and Down arrow keys. You can react to messages by pressing Enter, pressing the arrow keys to find the reaction you want, and pressing Enter to select it.

    You can also return to the compose box by pressing the Tab key.

  4. To return to the list from a message or the compose box, press Ctrl+L.
